Making History

The State Historical Building and State Historical Museum of Iowa will celebrate history of their own Dec. 14. The Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs will host a gala 7-11 p.m. that day to mark the building’s 25th and the museum’s 120th anniversaries.  The event will begin with cocktails, food stations, and performances by Hot Club of Des Moines and Flying Pig Fiddle & Banjo. At 8 p.m., Gov. Terry Branstad and Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds will give remarks, followed by a special performance by opera great Simon Estes. Dancing to live music by Decoy will cap the evening. Presenting sponsors are in for an extra treat: a collections vault tour with the governor, lieutenant governor and their spouses. The event will be held at the Historical Building. Tickets are $100 per person, or $75 for those age 35 or younger. Registration, tickets and sponsorship opportunities are available by contacting Jessica Rundlett at 281-7471 or RSVP by Dec. 7. Proceeds will help underwrite museum exhibits.
