New Fundraisers

Two local arts organizations are launching first-time fundraising events in April:

Enjoy creative cuisine and support Metro Arts Alliance at A Taste of Spring, 6-9 p.m. April 6 at the Iowa Culinary Institute at Des Moines Area Community College in Ankeny. Iowa Sen. Bill Dotzler will deliver the keynote address, and harpist Mary Foss of the Des Moines Symphony will perform. The dinner will mark the launch of Dining for the Arts, a quarterly dining experience at different metro-area locales that will celebrate the fusion of fine food, live entertainment and art. Tickets for Taste of Spring are $100 per person; for more information or tickets, go to or call 280-3222.

Celebrate your “inner fool”–or the fool in those around you, whether a politician, an entertainer or your boss–at StageWest Theater Company’s inaugural Fools Ball, 7-11 p.m. April 5 at West End Architectural Salvage in Des Moines. Costumes are welcome but not required. Entertainment will include Des Moines singer Bonne Finken and musical comedy star Scott Bradley of Chicago. Food, dancing, a photo booth and a live auction will round out the fun. Tickets range from $50 to $150, available by  clicking here.
