Marvel at the acrobats, nibble a Venezuelan arepa and groove to the didgeridoo. You don’t need your passport to savor global music, food and art at the Des Moines Art Center’s annual Gala Party Sept. 21. Celebrating the vibrancy that international artists bring to the museum’s acquisitions, exhibitions and educational programs, the event will highlight food and entertainment from several cultures. Festivities start at 6:30 p.m. with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres in the main lobby, followed by dinner and dancing under a tent. At 10 p.m., gala attendees move into what organizers promise will be an “enchantingly transformed” lobby for the après soirée (new this year), with henna tattooing, sari-tying lessons, and more refreshments and entertainment until midnight. Tickets are $250 per person; $125 each for those under age 35. For registration and additional information, contact Debra Kurtz at firstname.lastname@example.org or 271-0336.
