Tutus and cowboy boots? You’ll see plenty of both at the second annual Ballet at the Barn Oct. 5, 7-10 p.m., at The Bluffs Barn in Van Meter. A benefit for Ballet Des Moines, the event will feature a sneak peek of the dance company’s fall show, “Celestial: A Triple Bill,” plus cocktails, fall-themed hors d’oeuvres, a silent auction and a bonfire. You’ll also get a chance to meet the dancers. The $125 cost includes a separate ticket for a full performance of “Celestial,” which will be Oct. 11-13 at Hoyt Sherman Place.
You also can celebrate the launch of the new season Sept. 26 at a one-time event showcasing photos of the dancers at some of Des Moines’ most iconic locations. A few of us at dsm have had a peek at several of the photos—taken by Joe Crimmings and Jami Graves—and they are stunning. The free event is 5-7 p.m. at the Davis Brown Tower; rsvp by emailing Carolyn@balletdesmoines.org or calling 440-1177.
