Paper Chase

Style: “Bibliotheque”

This covering is a favorite of Joe Boehm, an interior designer with The Mansion. It’s “a quirky wallpaper that is filled with great details,” he says. “It’s especially fun in small spaces or spaces that don’t have any particular architectural interest. The wall covering creates the ambience of a private library. I also like that it has a history of being in production for decades.”

Rebecca Cartwright, owner of R. Cartwright Design, used this wallpaper in the back foyer of a 1920s home. “The clients wanted a vintage cottage aesthetic,” she says of the remodeling project’s goal. “The back foyer is the transition space from the front of the house to the back, as well as from the kitchen to the family room/sunroom and lower level. We used several wallcoverings throughout the home. This one ties all the colors together and sets the tone for hues used elsewhere. The result is a homey, welcoming and happy feel.”

Michelle Pulver, owner of Michelle Pulver Designs, says a damask wallpaper “always adds elegance to a room. I love this damask because, while it is still a classic pattern, the metallic sheen adds a bit of something unexpected. The softness of this shade of blue brings tranquility to the space, making it perfect for a bedroom.”

Style: “Hayworth Trellis”

Company: Cowtan and Tout
“I have always loved grass cloth wallpaper,” Pulver says. “It’s timeless and organic. The natural fibers add great texture and depth to a wall.”

Style: “Lush Red”

Meghan Blum, owner of Meghan Blum Interiors, spotted this five–color wallpaper last spring at the High Point Market in North Carolina. “When I got back home, I kept thinking about it,” says Blum, adding that the wallpaper is screen-printed by hand using water-based inks on recyclable paper. “I knew the paper was a little crazy and bold and thought it would create the kind of impact I wanted in my office. It’s a paper that makes you smile, so why not use it in a space where you spend a lot of time?”

wallpaper6

Style: “Navy Bean Grasscloth”

Company: Phillip Jeffries
This wallpaper “gives a nice texture to a space,” Blum says. “It helps create another layer of dimension in the room. I also love it because it is sort of a chameleon color. It’s definitely navy, but at certain times of the day, it can have a gray cast to it as well.”
