Sample the foods, dances and music of ethnic cultures in a celebration of World Refugee Day on Saturday, June 4, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Valley Community Center, 4444 Fuller Road in West Des Moines.

In addition to the presentations and displays representing local ethnic groups, a soccer tournament with more than a dozen teams will take place throughout the day. And a variety of refugee service agencies will be on hand to explain the work they do. Similar celebrations are held worldwide throughout June, in recognition of World Refugee Day (officially June 20 each year, as designated by the United Nations in 2000).
