17th Annual Sit On It! Gala

Nonprofit: Young Women’s Resource Center (YWRC)

Date: April 9, 2016

Venue: Community Choice Credit Union Convention Center at Veterans Memorial

Unique Touch: Silent and Live Auction, including a seated dinner and program, featuring locally crafted furniture and 2016 Louise Noun Visionary Woman Awardee Sandy Hatfield Clubb.

Main Attraction: Sit On It! is a seated dinner with a live and silent auction featuring furniture and artwork donated by local artists and merchants, as well as fabulous experience packages. Sandy Hatfield Clubb, Drake University’s Athletic Director, was recognized as the 2016 Louise Noun Visionary Woman and captivated guests as she bravely shared personal stories of triumph. Rickia Bradley and Say Paw, two young women who are clients of the YWRC, received Woman of Worth (WOW) awards for being a positive role model to their peers and demonstrating the YWRC’s core values.

550 guests joined the party and contributed to the variety of programs offered by the YWRC, raising more than $131,000. Each year these programs educate and empower approximately 1,600 girls and young women, ages 10-21, to be strong, self-confident and successful members of our community.

Sammons Financial Group was the presenting sponsor for this event. Mary O’Keefe and Jeff Nall led the evening as ever-so-talented emcees. Bill Hopkins, local furniture craftsman, was honored with the Outstanding Volunteer award for his extraordinary contributions to the Sit On It! auctions for the past ten years.
