Editor’s Note – The Good Life

christineBy Christine Riccelli

Des Moines has an extremely intelligent, sophisticated and savvy group of consumers who have both the desire and ability to enjoy the finer things in life,” Business Publications chair Connie Wimer wrote in the first issue of dsm, published in the summer of 2003. “That’s why I’m so excited about launching dsm as the Des Moines social magazine. dsm will take readers along as we explore the good life in our local metro scene.”

For the past 10 years, dsm has done just that, covering food, fashion, arts and culture, home design, the philanthropic and social scenes, and the intriguing people who make the city such a vibrant place in which to live. And just as the metro area has evolved in dynamic ways over the past decade, so has dsm. Our readers not only are savvy consumers; they’re also highly educated, creative and deeply engaged in the community. With that in mind, we’ve expanded our coverage over the years to showcase the metro area’s diversity in all its forms and include more in-depth stories, as well as to spotlight innovative photo- and design-driven projects from our talented group of contributing photographers and stylists.

We don’t know what the next decade will bring, but we’re confident dsm will grow right along with the city. We’ll strive to reflect local trends and cover the topics our readers care about in ways that will continue to distinguish dsm from other local media and, as Connie has said from the beginning, in ways that “disrupt expectations.” We hope you’ll come along as we explore the good life in Des Moines—and how it can become even better.
