Main Attraction: Over 650 guests joined the Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines in celebrating a successful year of promoting charitable giving, connecting donors with causes they care about and providing leadership on important community issues. Board chair Fred Hubbell and Community Foundation president Kristi Knous provided an overview of the Community Foundation’s recent work, including granting over $29.4 million in support to nonprofits from Community Foundation charitable giving funds and reaching over $447 million in charitable assets under administration. The success of the Community Foundation in 2016 was highlighted by playing the Community Foundation’s version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, called Who Wants to Show They Really Care. The game show featured community leaders as contestants. The Refugee Alliance of Central Iowa was recognized as the recipient of the Better Together Award and received $2,500 from the Community Foundation to advance its social capital work.
