Q: How would you describe yourself?
A: I am the founder of Above + Beyond Cancer, a nonprofit organization dedicated to elevating the lives of those touched by cancer. I’ve led cancer survivors on inspirational mind-body-spirit pilgrimages to destinations around the world.
Q: How did your organization get started?
A: What started off for me as a career in medicine has become a ministry of healing. Interacting with patients authentically as a person who cares about people has great therapeutic benefit for the patient. It’s also true that this type of doctor-patient relationship is tremendously healing for the physician.
Q: What do you love about your career?
A: I love the opportunity to help people. It is a tremendous honor to be able accompany patients and their families on their journey toward healing.
Q: What are some guiding principles you’ve used inyour career?
A: None of us is as good as all of us. Adversity leadsto personal growth. Challenge yourself. “Not knowing”can be a source of curiosity and creativity. Live todaywith passion. If diamonds were as plentiful as grains ofsand, they would be worthless. It’s because we don’tlive forever that makes today so valuable.
