Kelsey Batschelet and Kyle Hanson married Sept. 23 in an outdoor ceremony at the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden. They were the first to host their nuptials in the new Ruan Reflection Garden, which made the event all the more special.
“It felt like a natural choice to have the ceremony outdoors. Outdoor activities have been a significant part of our relationship since we started dating,” Kelsey said. “The garden is particularly beautiful in September. Everything is in bloom before the fall, and we wanted our guests to enjoy that with us.”
The weather forecasters warned about a 90% chance of rain and severe thunderstorms on the big day, but the couple didn’t let that douse their plans. “We went ahead with the outdoor ceremony, fully expecting to get rained on, and right as we said our vows the sun came out and shone down on us as we shared our first married kiss. It was such a beautiful moment,” Kelsey said.
