Q: What do you love most about Greater Des Moines?
A: We love Des Moines and the many opportunities available in the community. Des Moines offers diversity, high-quality living and values reflecting the Midwest mindset. We work on so many projects with people moving from the coasts that are thankful they relocated their family to Des Moines and Iowa in general.

Q: How did you get started in your career or how did your company get started?
A: We have a great story on our website about our history. Gary Barnum and our father Al started in 1995 after learning wood flooring was on the comeback. The days of wall-to-wall carpet were moving into the past. People were uncovering their original hardwood floors and needing them refinished.

Q: What do you love about your career?
A: We truly love hardwood and consider ourselves connoisseurs. We love to help transform customer homes with the warmth and longevity of wood. It is amazing the number of repeat customers we have. As homeowners move or upgrade homes, they always come back for more.

Q: Who do you consider a mentor and why?
A: Our father, Al Barnum was such a great man! We lost him in 2013 to cancer, but his memory lives fully in our operation. We have many employees that have been with us for 15-25 years. We pride ourselves on creating an environment that reflects family.
