Q: How would you describe yourself?
A: Adrian Butler: I am people-oriented: outgoing, engaging and interested in others’ growth and development. I enjoy opportunities to gain knowledge, learn new things and be exposed to new experiences.
Q: What do you love most about Greater Des Moines?
A: My family and I moved from Los Angeles to Des Moines in June 2020. We enjoy the friendly nature of Iowans and the ease of living in this area, such as limited traffic and an easy commute. We have enjoyed exploring small towns across the state to learn about Iowa’s history and visiting state parks and getting outdoors.
Q: What do you love about your career?
A: I love the varied nature of my role as a Chief Information Officer and the career I have had. I was blessed to start my career in the USAF and have enjoyed roles in financial service, hospitality and retail. No two days are the same, and I enjoy the ability to help solve big problems and lead phenomenal teams.
Q: What are some guiding principles you’ve used in your career?
A: It all starts and ends with the team and the people you surround yourself with. Always be open to listen and learn, and unafraid to try new things as a means to stretch and grow your career. Be unafraid of failure. The only 199 percent certain way to fail is to never try. And, finally, have fun, enjoy the experiences your career affords you. Time will really fly by, so smelling the roses as you go is important.
