Turner Construction

Q: What do you love most about Greater Des Moines?
A: I grew up in central Iowa and moved away after college. When I returned, I was impressed by the vibrant atmosphere that’s developed in the past 15 years. Part of my job involves convincing talented working professionals to move their families and make a life here. I love how easy of a sell that’s become.

Q: How did you get started in your career?
A: I participated in building trades classes at DMACC during high school. That led me to study Construction Engineering at Iowa State University. I took a position as a Field Engineer with Turner right out of school and have been here ever since.

Q: What do you love about your career?
A: We’re in the business of building structures, but I love the people and relationship building the most. We have about 250 employees throughout central Iowa, and I enjoy interacting with all of them. We get to build relationships with our clients and industry partners, and the people of this community make it fun and rewarding.

Q: Who do you consider a mentor and why?
A: My first mentor was my father. On our cattle farm in central Iowa, he taught me about work ethic and responsibility. At his day job (when he isn’t farming) he’s spent 40 years at Iowa State University serving Iowa farmers and students in Agriculture. He has demonstrated that loyalty and dedication are still very important.
