Broadlawns Medical Center

Renee Hardman, Chief Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Officer and VP of Human Resources

Q: How would you describe yourself?
A: I’m a leader who cares deeply about the community by working diligently to make wherever I land a better place than I found it. I describe Broadlawns as a place that embodies the essence of community — where we serve those most in need. Broadlawns is a place where folks feel a deep sense of belonging.

Q: What do you love about your career?
A: I love being in the DEI/HR space and helping to transform culture where employees can bring their authentic selves to work and feel a sense of belonging. Helping employees move along their own DEI journey is sometimes challenging and rewarding. At the end of the day, it is noble work that just feels right.

Q: Who inspires you?
A: I am inspired by people who work to help make the lives of others better. When interacting with health care workers at Broadlawns, I am in awe of their resiliency and fortitude. They have experienced the toughest of times, but still come in every day with a heart to help someone make it through another day.

Q: What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? Who inspires you?
A: One of the best pieces of advice I have ever received is to “Do It Afraid.” Do not let fear paralyze you or hold you back. When you don’t allow yourself to get out of your comfort zone, you do not grow. Live life, take risks and do it afraid. Your blessings will follow.
