Q: What makes your business special?
A: April Schmaltz: Health and well-being are at the center of everything we do. Through our dental, vision, legal, life and caregiving benefits, we provide 1.6 million members with the support and tools they need to improve their overall wellness. We encourage our members to seek preventive care because we believe that healthy smiles and healthy lives are closely connected.

As a not-for-profit insurance company, Delta Dental of Iowa invests earnings back into our communities by supporting organizations that promote health and improve access to care. Since 2002, we’ve committed more than $68 million to strengthening the health and smiles of our communities.

Q: How does your business contribute to the community?
A: DeltaVision’s annual vision clinic benefits our community by providing free screenings, exams and glasses if needed. Poor vision can have a profound impact on all areas of life.

I remember last year we met a little girl who was asked by an ophthalmologist what she could see outside. When the girl said, “Trees,” the doctor knew she had a vision problem and needed glasses.

We quickly manufactured her glasses on-site, and when she put them on, she ran and hugged the doctor. This is just one example of how Delta Dental is making a positive impact. I could not be prouder of our team and the work we do to support our communities.
