Brown Liquor Buffs, Rejoice!

Thanksgiving comes a bit late this year, but brown liquor fans have something to be thankful for a little early—on Nov. 22 and 23, to be specific—as From the Barrel: Des Moines Whiskey Festival returns to the River Center (340 S.W. Third St.) for its second year.

On Friday, get fancy for Women ’n Whiskey, a four-course whiskey-paired dinner prepared by four of Des Moines’ top female chefs. The dinner, which starts at 5:30 p.m., benefits the Susan G. Komen Foundation of Greater Iowa. Tickets are $99 (plus taxes and fees) per person.

Then get dancy on Saturday, when live music will inspire you to groove your way through the tasting tables and the speakeasy area. More than 200 whiskeys—double the number of last year—will be on hand to sample, including Cedar Ridge, the Foundry and Templeton Distillery.

The event will also feature food, speakers, games and more. Doors open at noon. General admission is $50 (plus taxes and fees), available through dsmwhiskeyfest.com.
