Q: What do you love most about Greater Des Moines?
A: The community has been a tremendous place to raise a family. From all the sports and outdoor activities to the Civic Center and cultural exhibits; Des Moines has it all. We love the bike trails and just the giving community we have come to know through association with Family Cancer Network.
Q: Who do you consider a mentor and why?
A: I have been blessed to have an exceptional group of friends that span a variety of careers and positions that I rely on to give me perspective and guidance on an array of topics. The concept of “it takes a village” is one I have embraced when it comes to my own growth.
Q: If you could learn anything, what would it be?
A: I would love to be able to play a musical instrument. My wife is a wonderful flautist and all my children had piano or flute lessons growing up. I just think it would be an incredible gift to be able to sit down with a musical instrument and play.
Q: What’s something you’ve learned in the last 30 days?
A: The first case heard by what was to become the Iowa Supreme Court was “In re Ralph” heard in 1839, 26 years before the 13th amendment. The Court held that the law extends equal protection to men of all colors and conditions. One more reason to be proud of Iowa.
