Light and bright
Gold: Caliber Homes
This large kitchen was designed for a 4,900-square-foot speculative home in an exclusive neighborhood development in Waukee. Because the home was meant to be a base model, project designers Brittany Little and Jessica Hahn said they worked with a very neutral color palette. “We found that balancing a traditional white kitchen with wood tones throughout really warmed the space,” they said. Features include hidden appliances, a prep sink and an accessible island. Photographer: Lauren Konrad Photography

Space to gather
Gold: MainBuilt Custom Homes
The kitchen in this 2023 home was customized for its two “newly minted empty nesters who still wanted space to host the whole family,” designer Kelsey Schwager said. Two islands with modern marble countertops facilitate both prep and dining. “We’ve seen a large influx of ‘organic modern’ over the past few years, working wood tones and natural materials back in,” Schwager said. The wood-paneled dual fridge, for both food and wine, has space for ingredients and leftovers galore, plus it complements the wooden drawers. Photographer: Brooke Pavel Photography

Wright angles

Designer Sheila Waller had a small space to work with in this new home in Adel, but “this kitchen is highly functional in the layout and the items it contains,” she said. “The horizontal paneling not only suggests the Frank Lloyd Wright style but also cleverly camouflages a necessary HVAC trunk line, maintaining the kitchen’s clean aesthetic.” White quartz countertops provide a sleek contrast to the frameless cabinetry. The vaulted ceiling enhances the room’s openness, complemented by windows that flood the space with natural light. Photographer: Jake Boyd Photography

Tri-color tones

This kitchen may be tiny, but it’s especially mighty in creativity. “I wanted to work with three colors to show buyers and designers it’s possible, rather than the standard one or two in a kitchen,” said designer Laura West. The rounded island also adds a stylish touch. “I feel like the grounding color of the island along with its unique shape gave this home a beautiful flow between the kitchen and dining area,” West said. The stucco range hood adds subtle texture, and stacked drawers with organizational pegs offer plenty of room for storage. Photographer: Jason Crocker Photography

Spa-tacular scenes
Gold: Kimberley Development Corp.
Completed in 2024, this fresh bathroom design combines modern elegance with rustic charm. Designers used wood, stone, brass and marble to create the clean, calming ambience of a high-end spa. Large windows flood the room with natural light, and the natural stone accent wall adds texture and brings the outside into the design. It’s “a perfect balance of warmth and luxury,” design coordinator Rylee Hansen said. Photographer: Jake Boyd Photography
