Rebecca Purnell and David Repp were married Sept. 7 in a flurry of family, friends, flowers and a canine companion, Jaya, at the River Center. They took their first-look photos in the Clare and Miles Mills Rose Garden behind the Des Moines Art Center, where Rebecca has planted memorial trees for each of her dogs.
Down the hill at Greenwood Pond, she had stepped into something of a fairy tale, once upon a time in 2020. “I wrote on a stone about the person I was looking for, made a wish and tossed it into the pond. And shortly afterward, David appeared in my life!” she said. “We found out that we’d lived only eight-and-a-half blocks apart for at least 25 years and knew people in common, yet had never met.”
In a nod to that serendipity, they planned their wedding around the theme “Worth the Wait” and went all out with a Snap XP selfie booth, audio guestbook from After the Tone, and a caricature artist from About Faces Entertainment. The flowers came from Wildflower and the feast from Trellis Cafe, formerly at the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden.
