Fresko is launching a new charity cocktail program at the end of October. The “Better Together” beverage program features specialty cocktails created by the Fresko bar team, and a portion of the proceeds from each drink will support a charity of the drink creator’s choice, as listed on the menu.
Beverage director Katie Wiklund concocted the program to honor a team member who passed away last year. As she put it, “It’s an easy way for the community to help each other.”
Revelton Distillery is also sponsoring the program. One of the drinks, the “Day One Old Fashioned” is made with the brand’s single-barrel bourbon and proceeds from its sales will support the Food Bank of Iowa. In addition to the drink sales, Revelton will also make a donation directly to the Food Bank.
Other charities include the Ronald McDonald House, Furry Friends and the Deb Snook Memorial Scholarship Fund. Wiklund also created a selection of mocktails that will benefit mental-health organizations; since she doesn’t drink alcohol herself, she wanted to offer a good selection of zero-proof options.
“We’re doing good and business has been steady, so we just want to help spread that good across the community in any way we can,” Wiklund said.
She said the bar currently plans to offer the Better Together menu through spring.
“If the program is successful at the end of the season, we will try to rotate charities and introduce new drinks,” Wiklund said.
