Q: How would you describe yourself?
A: Barnum Floors is a full-service hardwood flooring company. We carry only real hardwood products, both solid and engineered. We can add hardwood to existing wood flooring, refinish floors and build staircases. We are known for our advanced finishing processes and custom colors.
Q: How did you get started in your career?
A: Al and Gary Barnum were researching a new business opportunity while visiting his daughter Kelly in the Peace Corps in Costa Rica in the mid-’90s. A gentleman mentioned hardwood flooring was coming back into style and this planted the seed. Barnum Floors was born in December 1994 with Al on the phone & Gary taking every install & finish workshop available. Kathy joined in 1998.
Q: What do you love about your career?
A: We truly love helping customers transform their homes. Wood creates warmth in the home, is a natural, healthy choice, is recyclable and adds financial value. We are still refinishing floors over 120 years old. Wood is a forever choice, not a fad that will be gone and in a landfill in 15 years like LVP.
Q: What is a fact about yourself others may not know?
A: Both Kathy and Gary Barnum along with their father, Al, owned a bail bond business in the 1980s and ’90s, Barnum Surety Bonding, with an office on Court Avenue. They handled bonds in Polk and surrounding counties, as well as bounty hunting. They had a beautiful German Shepherd, Jessica, who loved to help.
