Molly Heffron and Josh Higginbottom’s meet-cute inspired their unique Shrek-themed wedding on Sept. 9 at the Rollins Mansion. The pair first met at a Shrek rave, a themed DJ set playing songs from the animated “Shrek” films at Wooly’s in the East Village.
“We thought a Shrek theme for the wedding would make the day special for all of us,” said Molly. The couple’s wedding planner, Lydia Dawson with Dawn til Dusk, helped bring their vision to life, leaning into the fun, romantic vibes the couple reflects.
On-theme details included a beverage donkey passing out beers from a basket on his harness, and ushers dressed as the three blind mice leading guests — blindly — to their seats. Their officiant even dressed as Lord Farquaad and led the ceremony in character, using a scroll for the vows.
“We didn’t know how many guests would take up the call to come in costume, but almost everyone did. Seeing everyone we love show up in costumes for us truly meant the world,” said the bride.
