Do you remember your days as a kid when you’d be swept into your own world, where limitations were nonexistent and anything was possible? That’s the world—and the feeling—Des Moines photographer Kathryn Gamble and art director and stylist Lindsay Berger sought to re-create in the photos here.

“The mission was to capture the natural beauty of children and the dreamlike land they live in,” says Berger, who has worked with Gamble on photo projects for a wide range of publications and other clients. “We wanted to go for an ethereal feeling of innocence.”

With that in mind, the duo shot the photos in a light-filled South of Grand home and chose well-tailored, structured children’s clothing in muted colors and with fine textures and subtle details.

Once in the clothes, “the kids became transformed,” Berger says, noting that none of the children—all of whom live in Greater Des Moines—were models. “The subtle fashion choices allowed the children’s charm, innocence and beauty to really shine through.”
