Iowa Food Bank Association

The association is a collaboration involving food banks and affiliates across Iowa, including the Food Bank of Iowa, Food Bank for the Heartland, Northeast Iowa Food Bank, Food Bank of Siouxland, Riverbend Food Bank, St. Stephen’s Food Bank, and the Hawkeye Area Community Action Program (click here for map). Together, these organizations serve more than 1,000 nonprofit groups—such as pantries, schools, shelters and other sites that distribute food—in all 99 counties. The association is affiliated with Feeding America, the nation’s largest hunger-relief organization.

This comprehensive index profiles nearly 500 organizations fighting hunger in every county. Developed through the World Food Prize, the directory lists descriptions of each organization and provides contact information. An interactive map highlights community organizations fighting hunger, and the site also offers newsletters and online resources.

USDA
Nutrition.gov

The U.S. Department of Agriculture offers a variety of food assistance programs, including WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) and the national school lunch program, as well as help for senior citizens. The USDA also offers dietary education, guidance on food safety, and tips for healthy living and weight control.
